Advice to Smooth Jazz Artists  submitting music to radio stations. by Rod Lucas

OK you think you've got some super music you want lay on the world - one of the best ways is still thru radio stations to play and feature you.

You don’t need to be a tech guru to send music via the e mail, but getting it  right for stations is another matter, so get it right. Programmers are not desperately awaiting for your tunes – some programmers want any excuse not to listen to new music. With lots of artists submitting material you could get dumped BEFORE the station even hears it.

Big Mistakes artist make when submitting tunes to radio stations.

1)    Badly labelled mp3's - or not titled at all ! This is a common mistake by artists. ALWAYS make sure your music has a title thus …..    Artist - Tune Title.mp3 (,wav)

2)    Minimum should be no lower than 192 Kbps.

3)    Most programmers won’t follow links to music sites – their lazy J

You'd be amazed how many mp3 tunes I get via e mail or DropBox that are unmarked or just song titles with no group name.

Make sure you get it right.  Artist – Song Title.mp3  Try to send mp3s or wav files.

When a programmer downloads your music it usually goes in the download box ready for listening to at a later date.
Programmers will not remember who the e mail came from or the group name. It’ll get deleted. If I can't can’t put an artist to it a song I get I won’t play it. programmers will no reedite mp3 files even if they do have the name of group and song title. Badly marked mp3s get rejected by a lot of broadcast software - so beware guys.

Don’t send music mp3s like this   SMOOTH_JAZZ_BAND BY SHE LOVES MUSIC.mp3

It should look like this    Smooth Jazz Band – She Loves Music.mp3

Often I go back a few days later to listen to music submissions, only to find a number of mp3 files with just a song title and no group name. At least mark the tune with your name !

No good making great music if you’re going to be let down by not labelling correctly or not at all.

Remember radio stations don’t need an excuse to not to listen to you.
