Rod Lucas on Best smooth Jazz
Hi since the last time, the sunny weather is at long last just about happening in the UK. Sun & Smooth Jazz seem to go together - although if were totally sun dependant in the UK - there really wouldn't be much Smooth Jazz at all!
Wouldn't mind trying one of those smooth Jazz cruises sometime - but are they worth the money and hype - I wonder.
New releases of note to tell you about :
Recommendations
Jeanette Harris plays some super new tracks on her new album 'Summer Rain' for April 2013 - very rich in quality and in keeping with what's popular nowadays, she's done some nice collaborations with people like Marcus Anderson (who seems to be teaming up with everyone lately) Darrell Crooks and Joel Bowers. Solid saxy stuff - I like her last album, this is better - worth a listen.
Greg Chambers new album is superb - the sax man plays some super tunes and 'After Hours' is out now. Some nice soft tracks.
David King - Flying. This guitarist is fantastic - every track a winner. Plenty of energy Smooth Jazz. Buy it.
Check out new singles from Rob Tardik - One World, Bill King and One Mint Julip (Ray Charles toon), Brian Simpson - Just What You Need ( more of what Brian does best). Not my favorite from him - but still good.
Althea Rene's new single is super - In The Flow. Also hear it on Best Smooth Jazz.
Check my TVvideos programs on You Tube and subsribe or check out the audioo weekly podcasts on iTunes. Pleae leave comments and subscribe.

Smooth Jazz Syndicated Radio & TV Show
Just a quick note about The Best Smooth Jazz weekly 2 hour Podcast from London. I get asked by internet stations if they can rebroadcast the Podcasted program, and the answer is no.
The show already plays 24/7 on the web at BSJ.FM But radio stations on FM/AM and DAB together with Satellite radio stations are able to hook up and play the show out with permission. I'm also making the televised version free to air on public TV stations too. I think the video version would work well on TV and on cable.

For the syndicated radio show - stations should look at my website Syndicated Radio Shows or Syndicated-Shows.com . You'll get a bigger picture of how to take the show.
A quick note about a new spot on Best Smooth Jazz - Wine reviewer Angie Walker from Best Smooth Wines.Blogspot.com is recommending the super best smooth wines once a month. Currently she's been looking at the range Co Op Food & Wine are releasing for Summer 2013 with some amazing results. On the TV show you can see me checking them out - Hic !

Best SmoothJazz Podcasts
My Smooth Jazz Pocdcast continues to bring you the latest Smooth Jazz releases and classic favourites. This week more from Duncan Millar's album 'Fresh Air'. Millar is a superb musician and composer and from London UK. This album offers fantastic grooves which will see Duncan secure with even more praise from Smooth Jazz world. Worth buying - recommended album.
Best Smooth Jazz is also featuring Paul Hardcastle's - Hardcastle Vll (7) album. Much as I like Hardcastle, I find it difficult to find a reason for playing it in a Smooth Jazz show - anyway as I said on the show - I find the album a little too samey, I'm looking for something more adventurous from Paul. I feel I've heard it all before. Nothing outstanding but good, smooth meets Chillax.
Greg Chambers forthcoming album sounds good - he sent me a couple of cuts from it, one with Jonathan Fritzen (After Hours) - worth checking out in a few weeks.
Other new releases worth hearing on this week's 'Best Smooth Jazz' show include Robert Fertl's "While on the Beach". Robert's a multi-instrumentalist and smooth jazz meets Chillax composer. Along with the 'ThreeStyle' band he's based in Bavaria and prolific with releasing new material. This single displays his talents. Fine Guitarist. More at http://WeLoveMusicRecords.de
Marion Meadows gets featured in this weeks podcast too with music from new alum 'Whisper' also listen out for Drew Davidson's 'Hi 5' from 'True Drew.
I'm also playing a super collaboration of Oscar Peterson and Milt Jackson, 1961 - HeartStrings from 'Very Tall'. Love this track and the vibes and piano have a magic appeal to me always :)
Been busy this end and look forward to bogging again soon.

Another payment today to PRS & PPL
Paying for the music played PPL PRS - UK
In the UK all legal radio stations have to pay for the public performance of playing tunes on the radio and the internet. That includes my Best Smooth Jazz show too.
Anyway another payment to PRS and PPL. Any help with donations would be great go here to pay and a donation.
Although my shows are currently "commercial free" and "not for profit" I still have to make music payments that eventually get distributed to the artists and music publishers and record companies.
Yup even a little show like mine are illegal if these payments are not made in accordance with European Copyright laws. Music royalties are looked after by PRS (Performing Rights Society). And PPL (Phonographic Performance Limited).
So yearly I have to make my contribution to the fees paid to musicians and all involved with the music I play. It means that in part most of the artists I play get a payment for music used (if they belong to PRS). I don't mind - but the it's hard on the pocket when you're not a corporate
So donations my listeners make to programme really help not only for music but bandwidth too.

New Bob Baldwin 'Never Out of Season' album
I've always loved Bob Baldwin's albums and his effortless ease of adding the 'chiver' tactic to his musical works.
His latest offering, as feature on Best Smooth Jazz - London is super. Check out my radio show and hear more. I've been featuring tracks form this "Gospel Jazz" album since it's pre-release and the the reaction from listeners has been amazing.
"Speak to My Heart" (a collaboration with Marcus Anderson) is one of the best tracks, sweet and very soulful. I hope these to soul mates do more work together in future". In The Beginning is ace too along with "Going Up Yonder". "Third Coming" makes the album a worthy buy.
Recommended by me and a great buy for Jan 2013

Euge Grooves continues to Groove
On my syndicated Smooth Jazz radio show one the most requested acts from listeners is Eugene Groove and his latest album 'House of Groove'
This album is the best one yet from the main man. Like his'live'performances it's electric soulful, sexy and full of passion.
I bought the album today and will be featuring it on my 'Best Smooth Jazz'radio show syndicated over Europe. So worth every dollar. Vocal soft soul tracks featuring Jeffrey Osborne, Chioma and Kate Miner Moebel add to a great mix. Yet again another album from Euge for driving to or having a few friends round. The best yet from EG.

Advice to Smooth Jazz Artists submitting music to radio stations. by Rod Lucas
Advice to Smooth Jazz Artists
submitting music to radio stations. by Rod Lucas
OK you think you've got some super music you want lay on the world -
one of the best ways is still thru radio stations to play and feature you.
You don’t need to be a tech guru to send music via the e mail, but
getting it right for stations is another
matter, so get it right. Programmers are not desperately awaiting for your tunes – some programmers want any excuse not to listen to new music. With lots of artists submitting material you could get dumped BEFORE the station even hears it.
Big Mistakes artist make when submitting tunes to radio stations.
1)
Badly labelled mp3's - or not titled at all ! This is a
common mistake by artists. ALWAYS make sure your music has a title thus ….. Artist
- Tune Title.mp3 (,wav)
2)
Minimum should be no lower than 192 Kbps.
3)
Most programmers won’t follow links to music sites – their lazy J
You'd be amazed how many mp3 tunes I get via e mail or DropBox that are
unmarked or just song titles with no group name.
Make sure you get it right. Artist – Song Title.mp3 Try to send mp3s or wav files.
Make sure you get it right. Artist – Song Title.mp3 Try to send mp3s or wav files.
When a programmer downloads your music it usually goes in the download box ready for listening to at a later date. Programmers will not remember who the e mail came from or the group name. It’ll get deleted. If I can't can’t put an artist to it a song I get I won’t play it. programmers will no reedite mp3 files even if they do have the name of group and song title. Badly marked mp3s get rejected by a lot of broadcast software - so beware guys.
Don’t send music mp3s like
this SMOOTH_JAZZ_BAND BY SHE LOVES MUSIC.mp3
It should look like this Smooth Jazz Band – She Loves Music.mp3
Often I go back a few days later
to listen to music submissions, only to find a number of mp3 files with just a song title and no group name. At least mark the tune with your name !
No good making great music if you’re going to be let down by not labelling correctly or not at all.
Remember radio stations don’t
need an excuse to not to listen to you.

Three Style "Feel The Vibe" CD Review
Feel The
Vibe by Three Style: 2013
Review by Rod Lucas
Review by Rod Lucas
‘Feel the
Vibe’ is a great listen and a recommended buy for ’chilled’ Smooth Jazz music
lovers. There’s a real gold fusion of quality
Smooth Jazz, Summer Grooves and Soft Latin blended with some truly fantastic
compositions.
‘Feel The
Vibe’ showcases the real talent and versatility of Bavarian band Three Style. Magdalena, Robert and Gabrielle bring a full flavour
of Smooth Grooving to this new Smooth Jazz Plus album.
‘Never More’, ‘New Summer Lounge & Chillin
Mr Benson’ together with the title track
all crown this 13 track album release. It’s
Smooth Jazz meets Summer Latin stylish Saxophone and guitar excellence
that Chillin’ Mr Benson would truly admire’.This Three Style
doing what they do best, being musical creative and so original in all they do.
Feel The Vibe is super buy

Marc Antoine Guitar Fantasy
Needed to say this about Marc's latest album. Always a great experience listening to Marc Antoine albums and 'Guitar Destiny' his latest, is superb. Plenty of lush grooves and exciting extras. A great crossover of Easy & Smooth Jazz. Love Alegria.
You won't be disappointed - hear the album on my Best Smooth Jazz program from London. I buy the albums so no pressure from record companies to say nice things. It's another recommended buy from me. Worth waiting for - nice one Marc.
